Welcome back to our series, Cheerleading History, where we look at the history of cheerleading and how it has shaped the sport as we know it today.
This week, we will be looking at cheerleading between 1999-2000.
In the late 1990’s, “UCA sends USA cheerleaders to participate in the newly formed 1999 Easter Day Parade held in Sidney, Australia.” This is the first time cheerleading is introduced to Australia and the Oceania Continent.
Over the next year, a variety of cheerleading activities continue to grow around the world. “Cheerleading clinics, national competitions, continental events continue in Sweden, Finland, Great Britain, Germany, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Russia, Mexico, Canada, and various parts of the world.”
In 2003, the “Largest United States Cheerleading organizations form & register the not-for-profit entity the “United States All Star Federation (USASF)” and also the “International All Star Federation (IASF)” to support international club cheerleading & the World Cheerleading Club Championships.”
In 2004, “The USASF/ IASF host the 1st World Cheerleading Championships or “Cheerleading Worlds” at the Walt Disney World Resort taped for the ESPN global broadcast.” Fourteen of the top teams world wide competed for the first ever World Championship title at this first ever competition.
In 2005, “USASF/IASF host the 2nd World Cheerleading Championships “Cheerleading Worlds” at the Walt Disney World Resort was taped for the ESPN global broadcast.” Three nations, 3 continents and 100 teams from around the world compete for the World Championship.
